Apprenticeship Programme Unveiled By Makers

complete deckA year in the developing Makers unveiled its Site Manager Apprenticeship Scheme at the Jobs Fair held at Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. The training programme utilised the latest technology by using Apple iPads to monitor and set Makers  Modules, coupled with daily logs and recording of activities.

The programme is totally comprehensive and takes a student on a journey of learning comprising of “on the job” training with a dedicated mentor, coupled with further education at college on a day release basis.  Students have to complete all tasks and are assessed quarterly by course appraisers and also attend external specialist courses by external providers.outsatnding

Makers selected Walsall College as its provider for its Construction based course being the first college in the UK to receive the “outstanding” accreditation by Ofsted.   Walsall College specialise in apprenticeship on “on the job” work experience and compliment company in house training schemes.

The roles of “Mentor” are pivotal to the success of the programme and Makers has selected to of its’ senior construction managers to fulfill this role.  Both have over 20 years’ experience within the company and a full working knowledge of the skills that needed to be imparted into the new candidates.

Makers programme supported by Walsall College will see the first successful applicants start this September where they start as Apprentice Site Supervisors leading to Site Manager Status after 5 years.

Walsall college will be providing a vital role and complementary study programme alongside Makers own modules.  The new attendees are provided with company transport to ensure their attendance at college and emphasise that further education and on the job training go hand in hand.
