Makers at the 6 Nations

IMG_9913Billed as perhaps the championship game England were looking to exact revenge for the defeat by Wales in the Rugby World Cup when the last two teams met.

Still fresh in the mind Eddie Jones, England’s new coach has seen the England team revitalised but Wales are a different prospect and were favourites at the start of the tournament.

Guests of Makers all clad in England Rugby Shirts witnessed what was a game of two halves.  After the first half the close spectacle that all experts were predicting was far from it with England having a comfortable lead, at 16-0 at the half time interval, yet although the atmosphere in the ground did little to portray the score line.

IMG_9926With 7 minutes to go and the dream of a second grand slam on the horizon in 20 years and the score line of 25 – 7 the Welsh suddenly burst into life.

For those English fans who witnessed the World Cup was it to be deja vu all over again?  In that game 10 points were overturned could it be possible.

With 4 minutes remaining a 14 points defeat and the atmosphere changed from party to panic. Loud Welsh voices could be heard from around the ground.  After score 25 – 21 anxious glances at the clock, a loose ball and ferocious tackle on England’s 22, a Welsh player now in touch, England’s possession. The line out, the pass back, the kick to touch.  Far too much for our guests nerves. IMG_9940Retreat to the bar, settle the pulse rate and enjoy the hospitality.

A thrilling game that was far too close, a result that will send England to Paris in the hope of grand slam glory, and 10 happy guests who were just thrilled by 2 very competitive rugby nations.

“Simon the hospitality was first class, the game a bout between 2 heavyweights, appreciate the invite”

Nick Hirschman, MBCE
