Makers Appoints Bid Director

MWThe Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Wood to the position of Bid Director.

Mike’s appointment comes after 17 years of service whereby he has worked in several different capacities within the Makers organisation providing him with the ideal platform to take his knowledge into his new role.

Mike started his career back in 1999 when after seeking employment as a trainee Quantity Surveyor, was placed in the Quantity Surveying department under the guidance and supervision of former Commercial Director James Thomas.

Within 2 years Mike’s abilities were clear to be seen and his hardworking attitude saw him rise to Assistant Quantity Surveyor.  By 2002 he was a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor and had obtained his degree qualifications studying day release at the City of Birmingham University.

In 2002 the Makers Business moved from a regionalised proposition into a product / service discipline and Mike transferred his skills into Makers Social Housing where he was engaged as a Site Manager.

Mike returned to the Parking arena and in 2007 became the Project Manager for the £4.7m Excel project where he had the responsibility for planning, design co-ordination and general site management.

Following the creation of Makers Construction in 2008 Mike was re-introduced back into the surveying team overseeing the QS and Estimating duties.  This small team were responsible for both pre and post contract duties and with the subsequent growth that followed, the roles were split with Mike becoming the Estimating Manager.

Mike’s impact in this role saw the Company double its turnover in a short space of time and developed a team of young Estimators.

In 2014 Mike became the National Bid Manager for the business integrating front end Marketing as well as developing some of our professional apprentices across all the Companies disciplines accumulating into todays’ appointment.

Simon Lamb – MD

Mike as always had a passion of Amateur Dramatics following his studies at ‘A’ Level.  He belongs to a group of local players in Erdington where this year he took the reigns and Directed the comedy “Are you being served” for the first time.

2017 will see additional changes for Mike as he is to be married to his partner Rachel in June, so he has a very busy year ahead.
