Makers Hits The Gold Standard

March the 17th is marked in the calendar as St Patrick ’s Day or more familiarly known as ‘Paddy’s Day’ but this year also presented 2 other events to coincide, the Gold Cup at Cheltenham and the completion of phase 1 of the iconic listed Preston Bus Station.

IMG_3747To mark both occasions and celebrate the transformation of the Preston Bus Station the Design and Delivery team were provided with ‘gold standard’ hospitality by Makers to mark the occasion.

“Kevin and his team are working hard to convert this 1960’s structure in to a modern parking facility with all the difficulties it wants to throw up, the design team they have assembled is first rate and is a similar reflection of the day we have received at Cheltenham today”

Justin Sheil, Conlon

“A truly magnificent day, at some point everyone had a winner but I would just like to extend my thanks to Simon and his team for the first rate hospitality shown to us all today…….”

Mark Saxton, Director Triflex UK

007“Phase one has been the most difficult as this has been heavily subjected to the weather but with the roof and ramps secured it’s full steam ahead”

Darren Wootton, Makers Operations

The Preston Bus Station is an iconic landmark in Preston and received its heritage status in 2013 and is now subject to a £23,000,000 redevelopment programme.  The handover of the first phase will allow the general public to see the improvements made and new safety features installed.

IMG_3752“It’s been brilliant to take a day out from the job which has been full on, the guys at Makers have been fantastic and todays hospitality has been nothing short of spectacular”

Darren Lee, Conlon’s

“We are extremely grateful that our partners, designers and employees were able to strengthen their relationships and enjoy all the aspects that ’Gold Cup’ day has to offer, a chance to let your hair down and share the typical ups and downs, ifs and maybes all associated with national hunt racing.

I would like to personally extend my thanks to all those who attended, my staff who made it possible and to Paddy Power for their tips especially sizing John who came home to win Gold Cup and provide us with an extra pound or two!”

Simon Lamb, MD, Makers

As part of the 60 week refurbishment scheme the car park and bus station will be going through a sympathetic refurbishment to maintain some of the key features which created its listed grade II status.

The pictures below show the transformation of the external top decks from their original 1968/9 construction incorporating Sika’s latest external membrane technology over the existing asphalt surface. The precast parapet detail has been repaired, sealed, protected and anti suicide measures have been incorporated including the installation of a new A-safe impact barrier system to create a whole new look to the Preston Bus Station Car Park.
