Makers Crown New Champions

As the golf season draws to a close Branston Golf and Country Club hold their Junior Club Championships and as the Sponsor of the Tournament Makers were at the start to observe proceedings.

 

 

 

 

 

“Branston has had a very successful junior section and with one of our surveyors Joe Marler being the ex-junior captain it has been fantastic to maintain that connection.

We try and give the event a tournament feel with players announced of a tee surrounded by corporate banners. Each contestant is presented with a competition bag full of golfing essentials”

The tournament is highly demanding with both a gross and net prize being competed for over 36 holes in one day on a highly technical and demanding course. Over the year the juniors have improved by several years of coaching available at the club with several of the section representing their respective centre.

Tournament conditions were brisk but bright in the morning and players with enviable handicaps as low as 2 and 6 headed the field at the turn. The 36 hole competition for the juniors walking in excess of 14 miles with a playing time in excess of 8 hours for both rounds.

The eventual Junior Champion was Junior Club Captain Tom Alford playing off 2 and nett prize to the Junior Vice Captain Issy Byran who just missed out on the major prize.

 

 

 

 

Tom is looking to take his golfing prowess further with a view to becoming an international student and playing in America, whereby Issy Bryan is going off to golf college in Preston to do a B-Tech in golf where she will learn all aspects about golf tournaments, marketing and business as well as improve here game. She will be in attendance at the prestigious European tournament at Wentworth before travelling up to the Dunhill Links in Scotland to help as a volunteer.

We wish them well in their respective golfing careers and look forward to seeing their development in the future.

Presentations of the Junior Trophy and Nett prizes were made by Simon Lamb Managing Director of Makers at Branston Golf and Country Club.

 

 

 

 

 

In tough conditions gross 80 was the leading score but it was very close at that point with 3 players in close contention but playing 2 rounds in a day and concentrating for that length of time is not easy resulting in some players falling away, resulting in a gross score of 160 by Tom Alford. His 2 rounds of 16 over par reflected the difficulty in the conditions during the day.
