Its the Ashes at Edgbaston

1Makers and invited guests attended the 1st Ashes Test at Edgbaston. Traditionally the matches in August have been affected by rain but the prospect of a full day’s cricket against the “old enemy” proved too irresistible to miss.

After a dramatic first day at Edgbaston, Australian Captain Steve Smith rescued the visitors with a creditable 144 leaving the visitors all out for 284 recovering from a devastating score of 122-8.

Smith’s battling performance coupled with excellent bowling by England’s Chris Broad meant the 2nd day was well set despite the loss of 2 wickets for 10 runs at the end of the first day’s play.

Invited clients and Makers staff witnessed a determined performance with England battling all day and creating a score 30 runs shy of the Australian’s total.

2The facilities at Edgbaston are first rate and the view from the Aylesford Boxes provides a brilliant vantage point to relax and watch the game unfold.

After the days play guests were invited to sample the attributes of Birmingham and test out their cricketing knowledge at the same hotel hosting 600 Australian cricket fans.

113Despite a couple of hours of jovial banter and cries of “Sandgate” with the ensuing visitors the evening finished off with some fine dining and finer wines. Those left with slightly more energy moved onto some of Birmingham’s hotspots to see the night out.

“Again Makers hospitality and generosity has been second to none, we have had a privileged position all day and they haver been fabulous hosts, totally brilliant day”

Mark Brock, MBCE

“We would like thank all of our guests who were able to join us and take time out of their busy schedules to participate in the day”

“We look forward to welcoming you next year where England take on the West Indies”

Simon Lamb, MD
