Makers Goes Coast to Coast

Makers goes Coast to Coast.

Makers Managing Direct Simon Lamb headed a group of novice cyclists to ride Coast to Coast to raise money for a faxitron machine used in Breast Cancer Surgery for the Breast Cancer Care Charity at Burton NHS Hospital.

The “Challenge” over 3 days saw 6 intrepid cyclists travel 149 miles up and across the Lake District and Penines, climbing some 7828ft of hills and were in the saddle from 9am – 6.30pm on all 3 days.

“everyone did amazingly well, the average age of the group was 47 which was good because that made me average…”

” ..day 1 eased us into the challenge with a few tasters of what was to come but day 2 can only be described as “Brutal”, hills, hills and more hills, we hit the highest point at Hartside 1503ft above sea level in typical British summer weather, rain, fog, high winds so the cafe at the top was most welcome…”

“.. day 3 saw the legs suffer with an extreme climb out of Stanhope, but once conquered it was a great ride to the coast.”

The team of 6 and 2 support vehicles set out from Whitehaven with the traditional dipping of the wheels in the Irish Sea and finished at Tynemouth where the ritual was repeated in the North Sea, then onto Newcastle Upon Tyne to raise a glass or two in celebration.

The teams initially set a target of £2,500 but this has been surpassed with the total currently standing at £5,500

” I would personally like to thank those friends and family, employees of Makers and those companies that were able to sponsor, contribute and assist us in anyway, together with the people who supported us along the journey.  For me this was a life changing event, hopefully our contribution will help those ladies who have even greater challenges…”
