The Arndale Shopping Centre and Multi-Storey Car Park with Spiral Ramp were constructed in the 1970’s and were in much need of concrete repair and protection.

The pre-cast external panels of the shopping centre and car park were cracking and showing significant signs of deterioration, along with the balustrade and columns of the car park entrance and exit ramps.

Defects such as spalling, bowed masonry, heavily corroded reinforcement bars (without spalling) within the car park exit ramp joints, and surface staining on all ramp balustrades and kerbs, was grouped with previous defective repairs that all needed resolving.

There were concrete repairs to external pre-cast cladding panels on all elevations, brick work repairs below the concrete cladding panels and concrete repairs to spiral exit ramp, including deck, support columns, beams and balustrade panels. An application of Sika FerroGard corrosion inhibitor and SikaGard anticarbonation coatings were applied to concrete cladding panels and repaired concrete surfaces of the car park, trapezoid building and ramp.
